Tom Griffin LLB Hons

Chair of the Board Tom Griffin - Vice Chair Person

Tom Griffin was born on 2 March 1948 in Hamilton.  He is a graduate in Law (with Honours) from the University of Glasgow and was admitted as a Solicitor in Scotland in 1972.  After a spell in private legal practice, he entered local government service in 1975.

From 1986 to 1991 he was Chief Executive of Maldon District Council in Essex and then from 1991 to 2003 he was Chief Executive of Suffolk Coastal District Council.

For a number of years before the transfer of its undertakings to Orwell Housing Association he was a board member of Suffolk Rural Housing Association.  He has now been a board member of Orwell since 2004 and was elected Chairman of the Board in March 2013.

Since 2003 he has been the Director of Invergarvan Limited, a company which provides consultancy services, and which currently provides administrative support to the Corporation of Suffolk New College and to New Academies Trust.

The Board

The Board delegates various matters to its committees. Specifically, it will approve the annual accounts and any matters referred to by a committee unable to resolve a particular issue. The Board will always reserve the right to reconsider any resolution made by one of the committees.

Policy & Finance Committee

Detailed supervision and monitoring of the financial affairs of the Association are carried out by the Policy & Finance Committee.

Audit Committee

The Audit Committee examines the internal controls within the organisation and is also responsible for the appointment of both internal and external auditors.

Development & Property Services

This committee is responsible for monitoring the work of the Development & Property Services department, including the approval and monitoring of all new schemes undertaken by the Association.

Housing, Support & Care Committee

The Association’s Housing Management and Supported Housing & Care Committees have recently been amalgamated into a new Housing, Support & Care Committee. This committee considers policies and monitors performance in respect of both general needs housing management and supported housing and care schemes.
